luol dengThe NBA season is chugging along, and after the recent success of our small cap article regarding the StarStreet.com trading platform, we figured that we might as well offer some advice to those looking for buy targets in the mid value area of the ring. If we were on Wall St. a mid cap company would be defined as any company who’s market capitalization resides between $2 and $10 billion dollars. Being that we’re on the Star not Wall Street, we’re going to say that any player who’s share price is between $1.00 and $2.00 is considered to be a mid value stock. Typically a mid value stock offers a bit more stability than a small cap, but won’t move as fast. Conversely it’ll move faster than a large cap, but won’t offer the large caps stability. Its the place wherein I like to keep the large part of my portfolio and think you should as well.

Todays post is going to cover the top 3 buy targets in the mid cap range.

Luol Deng – Chicago Bulls – $1.88
With Derrick Rose out of the current equation as of late, Deng has stepped up admirably to fill in as the teams go to shooter and playmaker. He’s done well for himself grabbing two double-doubles in his last five games and averaging 16.4 points and 5.2 rebounds to boot. This recent production has led to the $1.88 current share price that we’re seeing, but in my opinion its just the beginning. Why? Well its simply really, for one Deng is a supreme talent, and two, Rose is a wounded soldier who’s going to be battling injuries throughout the season. I don’t see him playing often enough or at a high enough level to threaten Deng’s stranglehold on the ball and if that happens we’ll see this share price soar into the mid $2′s before this season is over with.

For those looking to get in on the ground floor, the MarketMaker is currently selling 36 shares at $1.71 each which means that you’ll see an instantaneous unrealized set of gains hit your account the second you press the buy button!

MarShon Brooks – New Jersey Nets – $1.18
I was one of the fortunate souls that put my buy order in on Brooks several weeks ago, literally right before he went down with an injury thats seem him riding the pine for 9 out of a 10 game stretch in late January and early February. All of those 0 fantasy performance nights sunk his value to the point of me wondering whether or not I had made the right decision in terms of purchasing him when I did. I decided that the decision was a correct one, and things such as injuries should not deter you from defending the decisions that you ultimately make. With that in mind lets look at what is ahead for Brooks who’s played 30+ minutes in each of his last 3 games.

Now that he is once again starter I see his season end share price finishing right around the $1.85 or so mark, that is of course barring any future injuries. Whats more is that the target could increase should one of the Nets shooters go down at any point this season.

Jarrett Jack – New Orleans Hornets – $1.47
Much like Brooks, owners of Jack have seen his share price plummet as of late as the Hornets starting point guard missed a plethora of games with a knee injury. Before the injury however we saw Jack take the reigns of an Eric Gordonless Hornets team that was hungry for a guy who could put the ball in the basket on a consistent basis.

After his limited minutes return to the team on Friday against the New York Knicks we should see Jack start playing a full set of minutes by the middle of next week and assuming all goes well his price will meet and possibly exceed $2 by the seasons end, which is where he started at when he was originally IPO’ed.
