August 20 FanDuel MLB Value Picks
- Updated: August 20, 2012
After a fun weekend of baseball, teams are on the move today and will eagerly lineup across from new faces tonight, August 20. While we have not been providing a ton of content as of late it is our goal to make up for lost time, starting today. Should you have any questions about tonights value picks we encourage you to please contact us using Twitter, Facebook or simply leave a comment below.
With that being said lets move on to tonights value picks.
C – Eric Kratz – Philadelphia Phillies – $3,000
After Carlos Ruiz went down with a leg injury a few weeks ago, Kratz was promoted to the starting position and has caught the majority of the Phillies recent games. His numbers do not knock you to the ground, but as a value pick he’s well worth it. Over his last ten contests Kratz has collected 7 hits, 2 home runs and 6 RBI’s. On a team wherein scoring runs isn’t exactly what they’re known for, especially this season, its nice to see at least one player doing his part. The Phils will take on Mike Leake tonight who owns a 6.64 ERA over 20+ innings against the Phillies in his career.
1B – James Loney – Los Angeles Dodgers – $2,800
After having his six game hitting streak snapped yesterday in a pinch hit appearance, Loney will come back to L.A. tonight where he is hitting a robust .277 for the year. His numbers against Madison Bumgarner are less than stellar at .200 or 2 for 10, but given the price that he carries and his recent production we feel that their is enough evidence to support him having a good night tonight. Moreover, the entire Dodgers team has improved tremendously this season and at this point, just being apart of their lineup is enough to warrant a value selection.
2B – Kevin Frandsen – Philadelphia Phillies – $3,000
Frandsen much like Kratz is a player who is making the most of an opportunity to get on the field while a teammate is injured. The Phillies typical third basemen is Polacido Polanco but since he’s been out of commission, Frandsen has started the last 14 games and performed well in them. He most recently collected 3 hits yesterday against the Brewers, and has 14 hits in his last ten contests. He only has 1 home run in 76 at bats this season so the power isn’t there, but if you’re looking for someone that will get on base tonight, Frandsen is your guy.
3B – Luis Valbuena – Chicago Cubs – $2,800
Although Valbuena’s seasonal numbers are nothing to get excited about, he has been producing as of late and their is no reason not to believe that he won’t produce tonight. Luis has collected 11 hits over his last ten contests. Moreover he is 4-12 against the Brewers over the last three years with 2 XBH’s to his credit. In all likelihood he will start and be able to contribute to your team at a relatively low cost.
SS – Manny Machado – Baltimore Orioles – $3,000
At 20 years old, Manny is trying to become the best 20 year old in baseball, and while that will not happen this year, he has been doing enough to warrant fantasy consideration. The Miami, Florida product is hitless in his last two games but did manage to collect 10 hit s in the eight games prior, as well as hit three home runs. At this price, I see no reason to pass on Manny.
OF _ Brandon Moss – Oakland Athletics – $2,900
Not to long ago it seemed like the only thing that Moss did was hit home runs. These days however he is losing time to Chris Carter on the field, although he’s still doing enough to warrant fantasy consideration. Moss is currently on a five game hit streak wherein he’s collected 6 hits and 1 home run. Given how expensive outfielders are at FanDuel, it might be worth it to take a guy like Moss and then go for the more expensive players.
